Dr. Swencionis co-founded the Ph.D. program in Clinical
Health Psychology at Ferkauf
Graduate School
and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. With 28 years of experience in
Clinical Health Psychology, he has done clinical research on obesity since 1984.
He directs the Weight Service at the Parnes Clinic at Ferkauf. Dr. Swencionis
was trained in Hypnobirthing by Marie Mongan and learned Hypnosis in Ernest and
Josephine Hilgard’s Hypnosis Laboratory at Stanford University.
A graduate of Rutgers University
(B.A. Psychology, 1968), and Stanford University (Ph.D. Psychology, 1978), Dr. Swencionis
did postdoctoral fellowships in brain function in Psychiatry at the University of California,
San Francisco
;
and in Health Psychology in Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine,
where he won the Milton Rosenbaum Award for Basic Research in Psychiatry. The
American Medical Writers Association awarded their Medical Book Award to his
co-authors and him in 1998 for The Complete Weight Loss Workbook.
An active investigator,
Dr. Swencionis has authored or co-authored four books, 45 scientific articles,
and 26 scientific abstracts and research presentations. He was awarded the
Master Teaching Paper of the Decade by Cardiovascular Reviews & Reports(with William Frishman, Andrew Razin, & Edmund Sonnenblick), in 1992. He is Associate Professor of Psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School, and Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health, and Psychiatry
at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.
